Gaurav’s expertise encompasses both sides of the microphone and he is presently among the finest of sound-engineers. He has recorded and mixed many musical scores for commercial and parallel cinema, film songs, advertisements and musical albums. He has also been awarded for his Sound Design in commercials by the Indian Academy of Advertising Film Art following which he was also invited to be on the Jury of the same. Over a 20 year period, Gaurav has worked with major Advertising Film Directors, Advertising Agencies and Production Houses such as Prahlad Kakkad (Genesis), Mahesh Mathai (Highlight) Nomita /Subir (Whitelight), Sumantra Ghosal and Ram Madhwani (Equinox), Deven Khote (UTV), Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra (Flicks), Ashok Mehta (Ashok Mehta Films), Ayesha Sayani (Shunyata-ID8), Kailash Surendranath (Kailash Picture Co), Jeet Surendranath (Far Commercials), Vishal Punjabi, Haroon Mirza & Farah Khan (Red Chillies Entertainment), FCB-Ulka, Chaitra-Leo Burnett & Rediffusion. The scope of work covered production mixing (sync sound recording, especially of those commercials involving film stars and child actors), dubbing supervision and recording, music recording, sound effects creation and recording and finally, mixing for television.
Apart from working indoors, in the comfort of a post-production studio or recording studio, Gaurav is often approached for specialised and focused aspects of location sound recording, involving sync-sound for film and commercials.
Gaurav has worked as Production Mixer on documentaries directed by Zafar Hai on the Taj Hotels, the Tatas, LV Prasad Eye Institute, the Aditya Birla Group ; A documentary on Mr.Amitabh Bachhan, directed by Ram Madhwani; A documentary on Zakir Hussain , directed by Sumantra Ghosal.
Gaurav has worked as Production Mixer on overseas as well as local advertisement productions by Blank Slate (Avinash Shankar) for directors such as Bryan Buckley with Conan O'Brien, Christopher Riggert and products such as AmEx, Sony, Starbucks Coffee and Reebok Reezig with M.S.Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh. He has also worked as Sound Designer, Recording Engineer and Mixing Engineer of the anthem, advertisements and films of the Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians teams.
Gaurav has worked as Sound Designer for Hindi Feature films, such as, Kasak (Rajiv Babbaar), Sound Designer and Stock-Ambience effects Editor of Aamras (Rupali Guha) and Always Kabhi Kabhi (Roshan Abbas - Red Chillies Ent). Worked as Sound Designer, jointly with Baylon Fonseca, for Lamha (Rahul Dholakia) & supervised Dubbing as well as, Mix Design of Kites (Rakesh Roshan). Worked as Part Production Mixer, with Baylon Fonseca for Rock On & Karthik Calling Karthik.
Gaurav has often spoken on the elements of sound design and engineering & conducted workshops for various institutions and forums such as the 'Indian Academy of Advertising Film Art', the 'National Institute of Design', SAE (School of Audio Engineering), TASI (The Animation Society of India) and the 'Advertising Club, Bombay'.
Endowed with a discerning observation and a vivacious imagination, Gaurav has the benefit of being a musician with the training of sound and acoustics engineering. Thus making him one of those few who can make other performers comfortable in the recording studio and hence, perform their best.
Gaurav is often also approached to consult and suggest acoustic treatment of rooms, including treatment of air-conditioning systems in projects and studios. He has designed and executed many residential studio projects for music directors and voice-over artistes and developed designs for low cost, high efficiency, acoustic panels.
